    All Specialty Chemical companies rely on the work of their R&D team to continue to grow and innovate in a competitive industry.  With this in mind, LANXESS Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Chemist to join the team based at our East Hanover, NJ facility.

     

    The Senior Chemist in East Hanover, NJ will act primarily as a technical resource which supports Production, Quality and Technology teams to ensure consistent successful production of products at the production facility.

    Responsibilities

    • Champion excellence in production processes through the implementation of technology manufacturing, maintenance and reliability best practices across the East Hanover facility.
    • Investigate occurrences where product being received and/or produced does not meet quality specifications.
    • Work with appropriate individuals such as production engineers, operators, quality personnel, technologists, corporate analytical services, product manager and procurement specialists to perform investigations and identify root cause for various product manufacturing issues, whether related to raw materials, analytical/performance test equipment, production equipment or production process.
    • Propose corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of production issues.  The individual will also be responsible for providing, when appropriate, suggestions for rework of non-conforming product to allow compliance to sales specifications and/or provide recommendations for the proper disposal of product that has been deemed permanently nonconforming.
    •  Over time, gain a level of awareness to potential weaknesses in the various components of the successful production of products and proactively propose options for improvement in the consistency of product production to decrease the chance of future production issues. 
    • Provide a safe work environment, collaborate with company safety personal to plan and implement safety protocols.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biology is required, but an Advanced Degree(Masters/PhD) is preferred.
    • Must have practical experience within a chemical production and quality laboratory environment and be willing to work “hands on” as a bench chemist.
    • A minimum of 8-10 years of relatable experience
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within, and interface with, multidisciplinary teams is a must.
    • Ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize multiple short term projects, each potentially containing a significant number of individual tasks being conducted by multiple departments/individuals is required. 
    • Knowledge of refinery test methods (ASTM methods for ICP, HPLC, FTIR elemental analysis, and wet chemistry) is required.
    • Knowledge and understanding of petroleum refinery processes.
    • Understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC) and its application in a laboratory.
    • Demonstrated ability to consult on analytical instrumentation and test methods, including method development.
    • SAP and PRISM experience is preferred.
    • Experience with Quality Systems such as AS9100 Rev D and ISO9001:2015 desired.
    • Experience in industrial lubricant formulations/chemistry and performance tests used to characterize formulated lubricants (especially those tests commonly used in an industrial lubricant manufacturing quality laboratory) is highly desirable.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical inclination.
