    Role Overview:

     

    The Shift Leader will ensure the compliance of the environmental, health & safety standards and processes in a chemical plant. This position is also responsible for implementing production schedules, methods and processes while ensuring the effective use of manpower and equipment and resolving operating problems. Providing on-the-job-training, coaching and managing first step disciplinary problems is also expected of this position.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    • Responsible for the production of several process / unit lines
    • Reviews daily/regularly plant operation performance and advises on changes in operation conditions that will improve efficiencies/quality
    • Troubleshoots analyses operational problems and advises on the resolution
    • Holds regular discussions with Operators (and/or supervisors) to coach performance and improve operational understanding
    • Revises and evaluates ideas for plant improvements
    • Works with qualified engineers to develop project proposals and provides technical / operational advice to project teams
    • Ensures the compliance of EHS programs and processes for Operators
    • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned shift. Responsible of setting the goals and objectives of the operations staff for the shift
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work for shift; appraising performance; providing information regarding rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing and resolving complaints 

    Qualifications

    Required Experience, Skills and Abilities:

    • High school diploma/equivalent and Industrial Wage Certificate OR a 2 year degree required
    • Chemical Engineering degree is strongly preferred; however, multiple years of increasing responsibility in a chemical manufacturing plant will be considered in lieu of formal education
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes with hazardous products
    • Technical/mechanical skills in production environment
    • 5-7 years in operations leading teams or shift teams if no Engineering degree
    • Must be able to work 12 hours rotating shifts 
    • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
