    Great Lakes Chemical Corporation, (A Company of the Lanxess Group), is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and talented individual for the position of Environmental Technician in El Dorado, Arkansas. Reporting to the Manager of the Environmental department, this position will conduct routine environmental and safety inspections across the South Arkansas operations and prepare and file inspection reports. While adhering to and supporting our Environmental, Health and Safety policies in a fast paced, challenging operations environment, you will Perform required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections, sample collection, data collection, and reporting in support of the South Arkansas operations.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Facilitate investigations and resolution of potential permit deviations related to the NPDES program.
    • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of storm water and NPDES sampling equipment.
    • Complete inspections necessary to meet requirements of SPCC plans.
    • Facilitate sample transport and accurate reporting with both internal and external laboratories for South Arkansas sites.
    • Perform required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections, sample collection, data collection, and reporting in support of the South Arkansas Class I UIC Disposal Wells.
    • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of UIC injection and control equipment.
    • Apply specific Water and UIC permit knowledge and work closely with all employees at all sites to assure compliance.
    • Facilitate proper storage, handling, transport, and disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste at all South Arkansas facilities including satellite accumulation areas.
    • Collect the necessary hazardous and non-hazardous waste samples for the development of profiles in accordance with regulatory requirements.
    • Perform field requirements of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Part B Permit at South Arkansas facilities, including daily inspections of close sites, annual sampling of various waste streams, maintenance of closed sites and corresponding equipment.
    • Support the universal waste program at all South Arkansas facilities.
    • Inspection, operation, and maintenance of the South Arkansas remediation systems and ongoing remediation projects.
    • Collection of remediation system samples.
    • Conduct inspections and data gathering necessary to support the requirements of the Title V Air Permits.
    • Collection of samples necessary for compliance with the Arkansas Department of Health drinking water requirements.
    • Coordinate site visits from federal and state agency representatives at South Arkansas facilities.
    • Schedule and follow-up of Environmental maintenance activities for South Arkansas facilities.
    • Prepare safe work permits for life critical tasks supporting the environmental program.
    • Complete lock-out/tag-out on environmental assets as necessary for maintenance.
    • Data entry into applicable tracking forms and programs.
    • Support and assist the Leak Detection and Repair Team.
    • Prepare and submit Unsafe Acts, Unsafe Conditions, and Near Miss reports in a timely manner. Develop, implement, and follow-up on corrective actions as necessary.
    • Participate in audits as required under ISO/RC 14001 certification.
    • Support the identification and management of Aspects and Impacts under the ISO/RC 14001 program.

    Qualifications

    • Overtime and call-outs are required.  Availability for call-out for emergency spill response and clean-up operations, neighbor complaints and perimeter monitoring.
    • This position is required to join the Emergency Brigade
    • This positions requires driving a forklift
    • High School diploma or equivalent and an Industrial Wage Certificate or a 2 year degree
    • 3 years of chemical, or industrial plant operating experience preferred
    • Good Trouble shooting skills
    • Must have good communication skills (written and oral) and work well with others. Information sharing is required.Requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
    • Must have a valid Driver’s License and be eligible to drive company vehicle
    • Must possess strong attention to details, SOP’s, and Procedures
    • Good Housekeeping and record keeping practices
    • Interaction with contractors is required.
    • Off-site training for environmental related courses is required.
    • This is a safety sensitive position
