The Process Control Technology Engineer located at the Fords New Jersey plant will be the responsible leader to review, identify and remediate inherent safety problems related to the automation and controls systems at Fords and East Hanover plants.
Places safety first with respect to all activities while on company premises.
Responsible for any assigned project/problem at two New Jersey plant sites; Fords and East Hanover.
Be able to handle multiple projects on multiple sites simultaneously
Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests, products, and equipment
Facilitates the implementation of BAT (Best available Technology) as applicable
Develops key performance indicators (KPIs) and management dashboards based on strategic objectives and performance improvement goals
Draws conclusions based on research activity and outcomes; provides recommendations with potential impact to production safety and production operations as needed.
Works effectively as part of an engineering team as well as working independently to accomplish established goals.
Participate as an active member of MOC, HAZOP, PSSR and PHA evaluation teams contributing technical support at a plant level with an emphasis on instrument, process safety and Safety Instrumented Systems.
Participate and or direct plant level problem solving teams on an as needed basis
Ability to work well and professionally communicate with others from hourly workers to senior managers
Determine the specifications for new instrumentation taking into account the safety aspects of the process
Create and maintain written documentation of process safety functionality
Maintain lists of Safety critical equipment with necessary controls top maintain the integrity of the equipment
Review of operating procedures from a process safety aspect
Train operators on safety systems and procedures to maintain process safety
Continually develop and maintain Mechanical Integrity requirements for instrumentationAbility to perform independent P&ID review from a safety perspective with basic AutoCAD skills to update drawings with findings
Determination of process and instrumentation failure scenarios and identify Safety measures to limit risk profile
Review of possible unsafe interactions from piping or controls
Determination of interlocks on systems and document safe conditions for all valves and instruments
Initiate and direct projects designed to improve the safety of our processes
Review new and existing Delta V programing code to insure required interlocks are appropriate and fully functional
Monitor alarm notifications to determine cause of alarms in the effort to reduce the frequency of nuisance alarms
Manage Instrumentation projects from instruments selection to installation independently or as part of a larger team
Work with other engineers to insure new processes have all safety requirements addressed
AutoCAD experience, MS Project experience, creation and interpretation of P&ID diagrams
3-5 years of demonstrated successful safety instrumentation engineering in the chemical process industry
